b) My firewall was blocking repeated attempts to connect to my PC, from an IP Address that appeared to be PlayNC.com. I suspect this to be a spoof, since why would PlayNC attempt to connect to my PC? Perhaps the hope is that I will trust PlayNC and let them through my firewall (Yeah right. As if. Like even)

I run a truly absurd amount of security, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, anti-suspicious behaviour, anti-everything software... always on, and multiple full scans per day. Nothing is detected. I use texmod downloaded from a "trusted" source, and Ventrillo for voice chat - but I've never used any other 3rd party software for GW. I've never visited or used any gold selling sites.

So why am I seeing a) above? My suspicion is malware on GW related sites/forums eg. adverts

b) is worrying because it suggests someone knows I have a PlayNC game, and I am on a hitlist of people to be specifically targeted.

Is anyone else seeing similar activity?
I have also noticed (b) happening on my computer as well... ever since around Christmas 2007... and also with the addition of my anti-spyware constantly complaining about an attempt/request for a 3-way handshake coming from the Guild Wars game (which I have no idea what that means).

Any ideas on what this 3-way handshake thing is? After all these hacking reports... I'm kind of worried mine will be targeted (even though I only have about 100k of stuff).

Well, I've posed this question before but got no useful answers. What can someone in my position do to help myself before I get hacked.

My password isn't that great. I'd love to change it. (And no it isn't the same password I've used for forums). I'd like to change my e-mail address/username to something a bit more private as well, but I don't think that's possible.

My problem is that I've found it impossible to change my password. I'm linked to the online store because I've bought character slots. So when I try to change my password I"m redirected to NCSoft's website where I'm asked to enter my account name. It doesn't accept my GW account name and I have no clue what to enter here.

I've tried e-mailing support but gotten only form responses basically saying that if I don't know my NCSOFT account name then they can't help me.

So, I guess it's impossible to change my password after linking to the store. I wish I had never entered that blasted store. Any suggestions?

make out a support ticket which does not require the NCsoft info.

first response is form is form of usual solution links or we cant help.

REPLY POLITELY THAT THIS DIDNT HELP GET REAL PERSON NEXT

they will require all chapter key codes to prove you are not hacking someones account.

send in the requestes information and it will be sorted fast with a reset login password which they say to change to a longer one in only a few hours.

happened to me when their database lost me but a few back and forth on the support ticket made it good.
hope this helps

support ticket from the support site not just an email makes the difference

make sure to reply fast to prevent the ticket from being auto closed in 24/36 ? hours

Interesting. I recently bought extra slots also. Here was my problem. My computer crashed big time in game. It's happened before but this time I had to use a recovery disk. So I had to re-install everything, but when I tried to log onto my GW account it would not accept my password. I went to my laptop which has the game installed and again the account wouldn't accept my password. So I had to go though ncplay to change the password - pain in the arse, because you go around in circles.......I just can't remember how I did it - let me take a look and maybe I can post - because from the looks of this thread people may want to be changing their passwords more frequently. As far as I know nothing of value was taken. For the record, I have a good password.. Also, this happened in the last few days.

I tend to think many of the thefts of echos and black dyes are linked to these "buy gold" accounts. One because they stack and they are quick cash. Otherwise why bother?

Man, I feel bad for people who spend many hours working for these valuable things only to have some %$#@ come and take it from them.

Well, add me to the list. They took my Tormented Staff, Tormented Shield, Chaos Gloves, Destroyer Gloves, 33 ectos, 25 shards, 5 rubies, 100k, a Req 9 fellblade. On the toons that had stuff missing there was odd stuff in my inventory, like 83 granite slabs, 72 piles of glittering dust & a half used salvage kit (probably to cover up the trade to make it look "legit"). And they didnt delete any toons.

well. i just found out i have been ripped of all my ecto, destroyer cores, black dyes and my torment weapons and practically all my cash as well (11k left in my chest). i havesend an mail to anet via play nc and will have to wait for reply

simple fact is if nothing is done about my lost stuff i collected for over 2 years playing i will quit gw. i am not gonna spend all my time on it only to get robbed (and that is what it is) again.

good luck to all who encounterd this as well

So..I went afk in Drok's this afternoon. I came back to my computer a hour later and found I had been booted from the game. I don't remember the exact error. I think it was the one you get your internet connection disconnects. Anyway, Guess what?! I have been hacked too! Isn't this neat!? Also, when I logged on, I was in a European German district. Normally I play on American ones.

List of things taken:

31 ecto
40k+ in gold
Dedicated Kuunavang
Chaos Gloves -_-
Destroyer Cores

It looks like my Chaos gloves were salvaged because I now have 20 plant fibers and 178 dust in my inventory.

I am so RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing pissed off. -_-

I'd really like Anet to find out who's doing this, coz ive worked really hard to get those ectos, and its kinda disgusted me of playing for a while.
Goodbye to my FoW armor

So, whats this all about?

ps: yes, i changed my password etc
Here is why people get hacked. BRAGGING...you go around bragging in school or wherever you hang out with your socalled friends and you BRAG. You come online to forums like these and you BRAG of what you have and then you get ingame and you BRAG some more. Oh and don't act like you've never bragged because everybody does it to some extect it's just that some are ANNOYING braggarts and those are the ones that usually get hacked. One of your socalled friends could send you an email attachment and you think he is your friend never even dawned on you he attached a trojan keylogger onto it and sees everything you type. Amazes me how so many think hacking is so hard. It's really quite easy and I would suggest you stop BRAGGING about what you have both ingame and online in forums. The OP just showed to the world he has a lot more stuff some hackers would love to have.

A guildie of mine just discovered he's 'been done' as well. Missing: all gold, ectos, dyes, some uncustomized high-end caster weapons, destroyer cores and a crapload of lockpicks. He's quitting the game.

I really don't think bragging has anything to do with it Red Sonya. This appears random. Becoming quite concerning as well.

Once you link your GW account to NCSoft I don't think you can change your GW-username.

HOWEVER

You can change your GW-password via the NCSoft site somewhere there is an option.

Okay I don't know whether I am misreading your post, but you do know that there TWO different user/lognames. One for your NCSoft account and ANOTHER for your GW-account.
If this doesn't help you then I guess e-mailing for support is your final option.

That's clearly what you already did. Goodluck

I just logged on and theres a warning by ANET on the login announcements saying theres a noted rise in attempted account thefts. I don't know how long thats been there, but I haven't seen it before. This may not be random, but perhaps an organized ring?

As far as I can tell, that thing's been there for ages.

Have mass hacks like this ever happened before? I don't remember.

I can't afford to buy gold, I am as sweet at pie, and now Anet has me running in circles cuz I don't know what's going on! *cries* Don't hurt my girls...they don't deserve this! I have played since the world preview event and now I get free torture as a reward? *is trying hard as I can not to freak out while waiting for a response*

You can try to use Cain & Able from http://www.oxid.it/cain.html. It will show logins/passwords stored on your computer to various sites. Also if you see your GW password listed change it now since its easy for people to get this info using web site adds etc.
